Go west young man! Or the Weardale summer trip

A party of CAMRA brewery liaison officers had a day out in Weardale and stopped off in Westgate for beer and lunch. This is what they had to say about their trip in the Durham Drinker issue 144 Autumn 2014.

"and then it was a short journey to the Hare and Hounds in Westgate . Not only did we have five beers brewed on the premises, to choose from, but possibly the best pie, peas, and chips I've eaten. Consequently , there were those among us who would have happily stayed there all day, and others, who shall remain nameless , who had two portions of pie."

Pet Day, a Westgate Associated Sea Angling, event.

It was Easter bank holiday Monday in Westgate, high up the hill in Swinhopeburn. Westgate Associated Sea Angling Club (WASAC) celebrate a new event in their calendar. Pet Day, when members and friends and family get together for a barbecue and drinks. The food was of the highest quality and plentiful, salads, curries and over the fire, the star of the show was the catch of the day.
Music was provided by Westgate's  very own ukulele strummers, or as I call them the "The Mild Rovers" thank you to every body who provided the excellent food, entertainment and a special thanks to Jonathan and Kay for the venue and inspiration and to the Hare and Hounds at Westgate for the beer.

Ukuleles Sundays

Jonathan and June have been getting together on Sunday evenings to practice playing their ukuleles. They have seen joined over the past few weeks by Steve and Rob. We must stress that these guys are getting together for practice together. Not to entertain. For the next 4 weeks we will also be entertained with church from 8pm to 9pm followed by the closing of bar.
